What is the Poseidon Academy?
The Poseidon Academy is a California Partnership Academy at Mar Vista High School in Imperial Beach, California. This is a state funded program that creates a "school within a school" with a marine science theme. Students in the academy take four years of coursework with a focus on marine science. The courses students take within the academy fulfill the University of California's A-G requirements.
Academy students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of internships and conduct original scientific research. Students also have the chance to participate in several multi-day field excursions.
The academy was started at Mar Vista High in l995 and has grown to be an exciting program that continues to adapt to the needs of our students. Students comment that they enjoy the strong relationships between their peers and teachers. Our staff is commited to
providing innovative labs, lessons and projects to our students.
